Good for newcomers and experienced meditators
Review by Al Brown
This has introduced me to a deeper, more diverse ocean of meditation practices. I feel like I am swimming with greater confidence and freedom! I am challenging and changing my meditation practice each day. I feel free to experiment with new techniques and approaches.
The idea that stuck with me the most is that I am the leading authority on how to practice my meditation. That I am the person best equipped to determine the best path to my goals.
Fun and enlightening
Review by Andrea R
You will learn a ton about meditation and how it can be fun, personal, and creative. You will not be disappointed! I left grounded, happier, and more confident, with a sense of well-being and connectedness. I'm allowing myself to move through life more slowly and be present in everything I do.
We’re kicking off this course this week (Tuesday)! I’ll give a rundown of some frequently asked questions below.
Quickly: this is a 5 week course that includes 1 live session every week as well as online resources. There’s a suggested price tag but also a “forget about the price tag” option where you pay what you can (if cost is a barrier but you’d like to join, please take advantage of this as I’d love to have you in the group!).
The live session is a guided exploration through a variety of meditation practices. Each week exploring practices from the theme, which are Shamatha (calm-abiding), Vipassana (Insight/Mindfulness Meditation), Tantra (themes of ritual, invocation, inclusivity), Non-Dual (Direct Path), and Integration.
The online resources include a theory and history lecture (1-2 hours) for each week as well as the guided meditations from the previous cohort. You also get a resource document where I link to free resources and also include suggested reading lists. You get lifetime access to this content when you sign up.

Is This Appropriate for Beginners?
Yes! The whole point of this course is to give you a general understanding of the meditative landscape. I’ve designed the content for absolute beginners, but even experienced meditators will likely encounter a lot of new perspectives and techniques they are not familiar with.
This is a comprehensive crash course, giving you the tools and understanding to better guide and customize your own practice.
What Makes This Course Unique?
From working with people 1:1 over the past decade, I’ve learned that often people get stuck in meditation because they keep trying to do the same technique that just isn’t working for them.
There’s so much out there in the meditative world! Instead of frustrating yourself with a practice that just isn’t landing, it can be really helpful to explore and find a practice that works for you.
My intention here is to introduce you to a wide spectrum of techniques, along with a framework to make sense of it all, so you can find the practices that really land with you.
This course is exploratory, experimental, and fun :)
Who Am I?
I’ve been exploring meditation and consciousness for over 2 decades now. I’ve studied Tibetan Buddhism formally (a Tantric and Non-dual tradition) under a traditional Tibetan teacher, I spent years studying Zen under a longtime student of Roshi Philip Kapleau (author of The Three Pillars of Zen), and I’ve spent over a decade studying Vipassana under Shinzen Young, a brilliant synthesizer and teacher and also founder of Unified Mindfulness. (I wrote a little piece going over my work here)
I’ve also had a close friendship and been a professional collaborator with Jeff Warren (substack and website), and have been teaching at Consciousness Explorers Club (a pluralistic meditation group founded by Jeff) for the past decade.
I talk about my meditation journey here, and go into more detail in this 40 min video. I am also a practicing integrative therapist (more details on my website).
I also recently posted a little clip from the last run of this course that details my values and biases regarding meditation.
What If I Can’t Make All The Sessions?
No problem! Sessions are recorded so you can so them whenever is convenient for you. When you signup up you get lifetime access to all the content.
There’s also a self-paced course option where you have access to all the content but not the live sessions.
What is the Grokkist Platform?
The Grokkist platform is a home for all those who insist on relating to the world with curiosity and care.
Nathan Dufour aka Nathanology, who runs the Ecosophy Course (Intro To Philosophy For Ecological Action) made a fantastic video explaining exactly what a Grokkist is:
The Grokkist Platform is a place for us to learn, connect, and explore together. There will be discussion and sharing there between sessions to keep us all connected and engaged.
